Fatal Traffic Accident at 200 Southwest Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 200 Southwest Freeway (South Interstate Highway 59) about 5:40 a.m. last Saturday (Jan. 4).  

The victim, between 40 and 50 years of age, a pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer E. Morgado reported:  

The victim failed to yield the right of way and crossed the southbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway when he was struck by a black Mercedes Benz C300.  The victim died at the scene. 

The driver of the Mercedes, who exhibited no signs of impairment, remained at the scene.  He was questioned and released.
